Motor Surgery

Like I mentioned in the race report for Lone Star 225, I have been getting a bit of Bronze in my oil changes and most recently I got some metal flakes in there so I can’t risk ignoring my motor’s innards any longer.

I bought my 2007 CRF450X used and have absolutely no idea how may hours the motor has. I had to do valves early this year after it refused to start anymore. That was a super easy job really and I hope what I have planned will go just as easy.

I dropped some coin on a new crank, piston/rings/pin etc, bearings, gasket sets (both A and B) and a couple of new engine oil seals. This should be all I need until doing a new piston and valves just before the Baja 500. Since the engine will be all apart I am going to have a good look at everything so I can replace anything that is showing any major wear before I thrash it at the 500.

All the parts came in today so I am really eager for the weekend so I can get to work and keep my bike in top shape. It feels good to be able to sort of reset the hours on the engine and get it where I can trust it for a 15-20h long race.
