Every good adventure starts with an idea. That idea may be a seed that was planted years before without even noticing.
I had been pestering a few friends to join me for D-37’s 2017 version of LAB2V. Devin and I had gone in 2014 and were joined on day-2 by a college cycling teammate Chris, who impressed us both with his fearless attacks of whooped out sand as his bike tried to swap ends. We all survived and had adventure, and we were left wanting to do it again.
During all this pestering and reminding and updating I got a call from Devin and he completely flipped the tables on me. He asked if I wanted to do the SCORE Baja 1000. I don’t remember thinking , I only answering “yes, I’d love to. When?”
I had wanted to do the Baja 1000 ever since watching “Dust to Glory” and “On Any Sunday”. Both those movies kickstarted my want to ride motorcycles.
So Devin told me he had a 5-year plan and his dad had agreed to drive chase for us. Well, I was on board and the next thing to do was plan and research.
